About

BLIND ABROAD showcases the experience of travel with a disability, accessibility innovations, and stories from the global disability community.

James stands in the large doorway of a warehouse opening. The doorway stands three times his height. a puddle of water reflects his standing figure, back towards the photo, and White Cane in hand.

BLIND ABROAD is a passion project of filmmaker, James Rath. As someone born legally blind, James’ first exposure to the idea of accessibility was as a child when he discovered the magnification and focus within a video camera owned by his parents.

Today James creates films both commercially and personally to bring awareness to accessibility, and educate about disabilities. His films and advocacy have been featured on CNN, AdAge, Huffington Post, WIRED, and even on national television.

Over the last few years, James has had the opportunity to travel for work to a multitude of countries. While using social media to share his experiences, both the highs and lows, of traveling with a disability, he grew a desire to help shed a light on as many stories that highlight champions of accessibility on a global scale and explore how disabilities intersect with differing cultures and communities.
